It is frustrating that when people come to hospital with flu like symptoms, they were turned away saying come when the symptom s worsen. Is it true? That’s the news we heard about USA in India. It is a shame that rich country doesn’t have enuf testing kits. Early detection ( diagnosis) and early treatment will save you and do not complicate things. Wash hands with soap, wear mask and have vitamin c, lemon water, pulses, yoghurt filled diet. Your pizzas, burgers, cokes, pancakes will not help you at all.

Please guys! As of now all of you should wear a face mask and use alcohol. Think of what you should do now. This is not ordinary virus. You are long way delayed of your knowledge of what is happening right now. You should prepare for the worst. Here in the Philippines, Night and day the goverment people are proactive doing their best to contain the virus… so be advised…lockdown now or many of you will suffer the consquence.
Masks are effective only when used in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with soap/water or hand sanitizer. Masks after use should be disposed properly. Avoid touching the mask after wearing, should wash hands with soap/water/ hand sanitizer before and after touching the mask. Reusable masks should be disinfected right after use.

I am a doctor in SF and have to speak out now because I have seen
too many misinformation campaigns/attacks/racist comments targeting the Chinese
for “hiding » the outbreak initially. If you look at the information, and
the Chinese translated papers (most of our media sources do not bother
reporting these in English. The Chinese even translated some to English for our
benefit – see Lancet and NEJM reports), the Chinese have been warning the world
since January. They took unprecedented measures of shutting down entire
population regions of 60million people. Doing so bought the world 2 months of
valuable time to prepare – time that was d ignoring Chinese advice -dismissing
their reports as « fake » or « propoganda ». Those that heeded
that advice in Singapore and Korea are doing well. Those that didn’t.. well you
can see now. See the WHO task force in China report by Dr Bruce Aylward. It
initially sounded like FakeNews that the Chinese are doing a good job but look
now when the virus finally hit Italy and the US – the deaths and rates of
infection are way worse. Dr Aylward’s assessment was prescient and accurate –
and facts now prove it judging by how the situation is evolving here. In
California, we are worse than China – giving up on testing altogether –
suppressing virus diagnosis numbers and leaving the top scientists blind to the
viral burden on our population as well as blind to indicators as to how well we
are controlling the virus. As for early detection it is impossible. It is
called a NOVEL virus. It has never occured before. And when the first cases
started appearing in December/November no one knew it back then, all these were
postulated dates where it began. Imagine yourself being in a hospital and
seeing patients die with flu-like symptoms sometimes. It is not unheard of, and
we don’t jump the gun labelling it an outbreak immediately and spread panic. We
need to send investigation teams, spot trends (which requires typically at
least 50-100 cases to be sure), establish the plausibility of human-human
transmission, and then isolate the virus and sequence it’s genome – which takes
immense time given that we did not even know the type of virus it was at the
time. The Chinese followed the same protocols we do here in the CDC in the West
coast when investigating a suspected new virus (believe me to say that this is
common, but the rapid presence of human-human transmission with it is much
rarer). They require us to establish the above first with carefully designed
studies/statistics analysis and in the meantime we are always told not to
spread alarm unnecessarily pending the findings. There have been many cases of
false alarms and the panic can cost people/the economy billions in losses. This
may seem like « Censorship » but it is for the greater good of the
population at large. Look at the idiotic racist comments here and you
understand immediately why these decisions have to be left in the hands of the
experts and not the common layperson who does not understand virology or
epidemiology. We have to stop believing our own hate propoganda and start
managing our country based on facts/science. The Chinese are offering millions
of test kits and masks to us but the Trump administration refuses to accept
them and launched another racist tirade against the Chinese, labeling it a
« Chinese virus ». His propoganda media channels and bots backed by the
State Dept are launching coordinated racist attacks as well (hence the increase
of such messages you have seen recently.) (Yes we have become the evil Russian
election influencers and 50cent army now) As to everyone else, please ignore
them, and stay safe at home. The virus is NOT a hoax. People and healthcare
workers are getting infected and dying, young ones too. Now they have censored
whistleblowers like Dr Ming Lin, an ER doctor from Washington State, sacking
him for revealing the poor safety standards and lack of protective equipment,
as well as a nurse form Chicago and USN Captain Brett Crozier, Commander of the
USS Roosevelt. And still the Trump regime is intent on finding scapegoats,

Take a piece of fabric, fake leather, whatever, cut it to about 32 inches and 24, fold in half so it’s about 16 inches and 24, stitch along one of the shorter sides. Go in, go a distance, go back to the first hole, come through, do it again but on the other side of the stitch now, rinse wash repeat. Bang. You have a mask. Cut some eye sockets out. Stitch it to a paintball mask, goggles or wear glasses, whatever. Grab a gateraid bottle, take the lid off and cut the bottom off, grab an elastic band or wear a hoodie, put all of it on together and put the bottle (bottom side) up to your mouth, band it in with the extra fabric wrapped around it, so it doesn’t want to move much and leave a hole with the fabric wrapped around so your exhaled breath can leave the mask, but cover it so projectile liquids don’t land directly on the bottle(easily). You should look like a plague doctor or an elephant, basically. More or less serves the same purpose. You just want to limit your spreading of the virus, and also try to limit the amount of the virus you get into you. Underneath this set up I intend on wearing either lots of fabric over my mouth and nose or even a respirator. After hearing that Bus drivers plea and hearing how he died I don’t think anyone has a right to say they will take YOUR chances now.

I have been wearing a mask (been out 3 times ) since mid February. I have industrial N95’s for cleaning b/c I have asthma (I am also immunocompromised). I am sending the unworn ones to NY, my old state. It pains me to see how this train approached us and the conductor froze, did nada. It’s shameful how many people are going to die b/c of a lack of response. Use blue paper towels…the ones to clean the car inside a home made mask. I wear gloves as well, but I heard these are not as effective. To me it was obvious, if there are asymptomatic carriers, you have to assume everyone is infected and use barriers to stop the spread. I don’t have to be an epidemiologist to figure that one out, just an understanding of basic higiene and common sense will do!!

In the rate of spread he would have done 4 times better.
